Quarantine - A Shaky Bloody Mess »

quarantine-horror-movie-posterSaw Quarantine tonight. Not bad, but also not good.

Filmed like the movie Cloverfield, it is completely shot from the view of a cameraman following a reporter. the reporter is doing a story on a group of firemen and goes along with them, only to stumble into an effected building where they are locked inside (by the authorities) while everyone turns into blood sucking rabid zombies. Just like Cloverfield it starts with about 30 minutes of the filming of a bunch of people while the reporter is doing film spots with the different firemen around the firehouse. this lets the viewer get to know each of the characters.

After that and once they get to the infected building the movie quickly turns into a rapidly jerking around camera view, a lot of screaming, running, bloody biting, and people’s life ending quickly. (more…)

When Will I Get My Stimulus? »

stimulus-checksOur new President signed the $787 BILLION dollar stimulus plan into law today.  I guess that is a good thing but I just don’t see it yet. I am someone who still has a job but is SLOWLY DROWNING. To make matters worse I can actually SEE the hypothetical water slowly rising above my head. With each passing day, week, and month I fall further and further into debt and operate at a quickly growing loss.

With less and less funds available I regularly short one bill this week to pay another, and then do the same thing again the following week. And I see no end in site. Where is my stimulus plan? $800 for couples in tax breaks is not going to cut it to be honest.

There are about 150 million tax paying adults in the USA. If you divide the 787 billion dollars up among them that is around $5,200 each or $10,400 per tax paying couple. Right now I could use $10,000+ a whole lot more then what is currently being proposed. Maybe that is selfish but I HAVE TO look out for what is best for me and my family. And right now I need to figure out how to pay for day care next week, purchase some milk for my son, and put gas in my car to get to the job I hope will still be there next week.

I guess I just don’t get it right now. Billions are going to the car industry. Billions more to the banks and even more to the housing industry. Billions of dollars here  and billions more there.

But where exactly is the money FOR ME? (more…)

American Idol Is Dead »

american1idolI just wanted to comment on how BAD most of the singers are this year. Maybe it is nerves, but I think more likely it is that the talent has dropped considerably this year. Sure there will eventually be one or two that are pretty good, but overall they really seem unmotivated, uninspired, and mediocre this season - at least so far.

Also, who in the world is picking the songs for these people?? They all have coaches helping them and they have to know in advance that they are going to sound horrible with the songs they are choosing.  The judges said over and over again that the wrong songs had been picked by the contestants. One female singer butchered a Police song so bad that it was painful to watch.

I have no problem admitting that we have watched American Idol since the begining. But this season might be the last one for us unless it gets MUCH better in the coming weeks. Right now it is hard to root for anyone when they all seem subpar.

Soul Men - The “F” Word 2000 Times! »

soul_men_movie_still1From IMDB: Though it’s been some twenty years since they have spoken with one another, two estranged soul-singing legends agree to participate in a reunion performance at the Apollo Theater to honor their recently deceased band leader.

That about sums it up, but don’t forget the 2000 times they say fuck, mother fucker, fuck this, fuck that, and fuck fuck fuck. I have no problem with the word fuck being used in a movie, but in this movie it almost becomes comical how many times in the same sentence they use the word.

Actually a GREAT drinking game could be done with this movie if you had to take a drink every time they say the word fuck. You would be TRASHED within the first 15 minutes of the film.

I have long been a Samuel L. Jackson fan but this movie is below par even for him. Bernie Mac was fun in the Ocean’s 11 series of movies but has always been more of a supporting actor in my opinion.

What I disliked most about this film is that it is JUST NOT FUNNY. It was billed as a comedy and ends up failing as a buddy movie about 2 old guys becoming friends again. Overall I was not impressed.

I did not believe the “buddy” plot.
I did not think the music was particularly good or well performed.
I did not believe any of the main characters and the people they met along the way were even more ridiculous, highlighted by Jackson’s daughter’s clown of a boyfriend.

Sure Issac Hayes and Bernie Mac died shortly after filming this movie, but that does not change the fact that it is sub par (in my opinion) at best.

Box office - In 13 weeks in wide release it only made 12 million dollars, further showing that the viewing public (including the African American audience that it is obviously targeted at) clearly also thought it was not a good movie.

Friday the 13th - 2009 »

friday_the_13th_movie_posterWe saw Friday the 13th, 2009 last night and completely LIKED it. Very good remake that was neither cheesy or dumb. Very well done, well shot, and good effects. It has an R rating so the killing is graphic, there are excellent sex scenes, a good amount of humor mixed in and they don’t have to hold back with the scary stuff. ALSO, the sound track and sound effects are VERY well done. The “scary” stuff is enhanced by the sound effects that are perfectly placed and executed.

This is similar to the recent first remake of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, where they did a good job reinventing the film in modern times. The same people produced this new version of Friday the 13th and did an equally excellent job.

I liked how they introduced the hockey mask into the story, but I won’t tell you so you can see it at the theaters.

Here is the description from IMDB - (more…)

PETA’s Banned Super Bowl Ad »

I will start by saying this - I LOVE MEAT. I eat it all of the time and have NO PROBLEM at all with eating meat. That being said this is a great ad that was banned by NBC and will not be shown on today’s Super Bowl broadcast. NBC rejected the video because of concerns over “rubbing pelvic region with pumpkin,” a woman “screwing herself with broccoli.” To funny! Enjoy the commercial. I did.
