This was sent to me today. Food for thought. While the math below does not actually make sense, I can’t say I do not disagree. Why not just divide the entire 700 Billion and give it right back to the people.
I’m against the $85,000,000,000.00 bailout of AIG.
Instead, I’m in favor of giving $85,000,000,000 to America in a ‘We Deserve It’ Dividend.
To make the math simple, let’s assume there are 200,000,000 bonafide U.S. Citizens 18+. Our population is about 301,000,000 +/- counting every man, woman and child. So 200,000,000 might be a fair stab at adults 18 and up.
So divide 200 million adults 18+ into $85 billion that equals $425,000.00. (more…)
Who else did not LOVE Letterman showing some real emotion and blasting McCain night after night. Bottom line is that he got dissed and he took it out on the guest who screwed him last minute. The guest just happened to be the Republican Presidential candidate. I added the video below so you can see it also. Real anger is always funnier then anything else.
NEW YORK (AP) — “Late Show” host David Letterman treated John McCain’s decision to cancel an appearance on his talk show more like a stupid human trick than the act of a statesman.
The Republican presidential candidate said he was halting his campaign activities Wednesday, citing the need to deal with the nation’s financial crisis, and called Letterman to drop out (more…)
Some time ago and on one of my blogs I wrote about a new garden we created at our house. It has a really nice little stone wall, a variety of colorful and flowering plants, a stone bird bath, and a bird feeder. You can click on the thumbnail to the right to see a picture of it.
But almost immediately after doing all the landscaping work we noticed a few other new additions to our yard also - mainly some 4 legged little critters that fell in love with our new yard. Within days the squirrels moved in! They were everywhere. Running along the fence, climbing into the bird feeder, (more…)
Randal H Miller, a blogger who is a friend of mine, did a great wrap up for the first presidential debate last night. I thought it was well done and have reposted a portion of it here.
Overall
The presidential debate was a pretty decent show. On a scale from 1 to 10, I’d give it an 8. It’s nice to see some banter between the candidates. The 2004 debates were horrendous as the candidates never got to mix it up. Jim Lehrer (moderator) did a good job of keeping things on track and encouraging some interaction between the two. They were pretty much free to help drive the conversation instead of just standing there waiting for a direct question like the Kerry v. Bush days. (more…)
Our son is almost two years old. He is more and more active and just starting to talk. And talk and talk…and talk. Of course we love every second of it, but as he runs faster and seems to grow more with each passing day it is amazing how tired we are at the end of each day. Totally and completely exhausted is more like it.
Day after day to work we go and then home to rush through all the things that need to be done just to make it to the next day. Neither one of us would trade even one second of our time together and with our son, but everyone needs a break every now and then. (more…)
I LOVE movies. Blockbuster should give me some sort of lifetime achievement award for excellence in the field of online and in store renting. This being an election year I thought it would be relevant to list my favorite movies about politics. With all due respect to All The Kings Men, The Candidate, Mr Smith Goes To Washington, The original Manchurian Candidate, and Gandhi - all which are all time great movies - here are my favorite flicks about politics in no particular order.
Being There: Rarely does a movie stay with people like this one has for me. When I was young I remember watching it with my father in when it first was released. The incredible Peter Sellers was Chauncey, a simple-minded gardener who has spent all his life in the Washington D.C. house of an old man. When the man dies, Chauncey is put out on the street (more…)
Who else felt a little cheated by the David Blaine “magic” special on TV the other night. Hours and hours of build up, announcers proclaiming the magnitude of the accomplishment of hanging upside down 50 feet in the air for 3 days. While we all watched the endless hanging the TV show mixed in video clips of magic trick after magic trick that Blaine performed on the streets where he is best known. These slight of hand Magic Tricks and intense attitude with are what made him great and one of the best known magicians in the world. I for one wish he would go back to that type of performance and “street magic” instead of the endurance performances.
This all made me remember when I was younger and how I always was fascinated by magic. Card tricks and coin tricks especially amazed me with the incredible slight of hand. Even older I still LOVE movies about magicians and magic tricks like The Illusionist and The Prestige.
Recently I found a magic site called Wizmo Magic that has Magic Tricks for sale and really cool demo videos. I enjoyed watching them and encourage you to watch the videos to remind yourself what real magic is. The dexterity, repetition, and practice needed to make these tricks look real is still incredible to me. This is not the silly made for TV stunts that David Blaine has recently been doing to try to get big ratings. The prices are also affordable compared to other similar sites and I might even look into buying a few starter magic tricks for my son to start playing with in the future. it would be nice to see him master some of the magic tricks that I was never able to!
I know this is off topic, but I LOVE this video. Just so cool. Check out Domino Pool Table. How long do you think it took for him to set this up? And imagine if just one of those dominoes fell the wrong way?
I am always amazed when people do creative things like this that both entertain and amaze at the same time. Enjoy the video.
It is pretty amazing how long most people will go without purchasing new furniture. The other day we realized that our current bedrooms set, which had come with me into the relationship, was ALMOST 20 years old. Even worse it was something I had inherited from my previous marriage. It was obviously time for a change.
In addition the old current bedroom furniture was legitimately beat up and nicked in many places from multiple moves. Living in North Carolina, the unofficial furniture capital of the country, we have an incredible amount of stores all around us. So we set off early in the day on to look at different furniture locations and try to find anything that we both liked. Hours and hours we spent going from store to store looking at many different bedroom sets. By the middle of the day I was tired, confused, and frustrated. My wife felt the same way, and our 20 month old son was crying and cranky.
With all that tension instead of getting in a huge fight, we decided to take a mutual BIG breath, go get dinner at Ruby Tuesdays (we love that place) and just go home. Once home we started looking at all the pamphlets and flyers and just did not see anything we both loved. So I decided to start looking on the internet.
I have always been wary of furniture shopping online because I am a “feel it” kind of person and like to actually touch and sit on any furniture I buy. But we agreed to look at a few sites together. After about 20 minutes we came to a site called American Drew Furniture. Both of us found a few different sets we really liked pretty quickly. It was a first in a long day of furniture shopping. The one set we REALLY liked was the Advocate Collection. Everything looked stylish, rich, and classy. Kind of a mix of modern style with a classic feel.
We are going to get more information about this set and have a representative call us. I will report back with more details once we speak with the rep and post pictures if we decide to make the purchase. The end result of our long long long day of driving around and wasting gas money was that we accomplished more in 1 hour looking online and doing our research that way.
I saw this on another site so full credit goes to them for finding this, but I agree that it is brilliant. Please make sure to check out the Pink Sheep of the Family site where I got this info. I agree with the guys over at Pink Sheep that this is a fantastic video! Whoever did this video is incredibly talented with the dubbing.
Make sure to stick with the video till after the opening song. George W. Bush is Rose - the dumb one. / John McCain is Sophia - the old one. / Hillary Clinton is Dorothy - the mean one. / Sarah Palin is Blanche - the slutty one. / Barack Obama is the African American woman.
