When Will I Get My Stimulus?

stimulus-checksOur new President signed the $787 BILLION dollar stimulus plan into law today.  I guess that is a good thing but I just don’t see it yet. I am someone who still has a job but is SLOWLY DROWNING. To make matters worse I can actually SEE the hypothetical water slowly rising above my head. With each passing day, week, and month I fall further and further into debt and operate at a quickly growing loss.

With less and less funds available I regularly short one bill this week to pay another, and then do the same thing again the following week. And I see no end in site. Where is my stimulus plan? $800 for couples in tax breaks is not going to cut it to be honest.

There are about 150 million tax paying adults in the USA. If you divide the 787 billion dollars up among them that is around $5,200 each or $10,400 per tax paying couple. Right now I could use $10,000+ a whole lot more then what is currently being proposed. Maybe that is selfish but I HAVE TO look out for what is best for me and my family. And right now I need to figure out how to pay for day care next week, purchase some milk for my son, and put gas in my car to get to the job I hope will still be there next week.

I guess I just don’t get it right now. Billions are going to the car industry. Billions more to the banks and even more to the housing industry. Billions of dollars here  and billions more there.

But where exactly is the money FOR ME? I am not currently defaulting on my home or car payments. My job and the industry I am in are currently stable. But I just don’t have enough money to pay all of the bills I have.  I have cut back to the bare bones and there is nothing left to cut. Where is the money for me so I don’t end up defaulting on my home mortgage and other bills? I need a stimulus package and soon.

From the Associated Press today:

Obama focused on the $787 billion stimulus plan, an ambitious package of federal spending and tax cuts designed to revive the economy and save millions of jobs. Most wage-earners will soon see the first paycheck evidence of tax breaks that will total $400 for individuals and $800 for couples.

The stimulus package was a huge victory for Obama less than one month into his presidency. But he struck a sober tone and lowered expectations for an immediate turnaround in the severe recession that is well into its second year.

“None of this will be easy,” he said. “The road to recovery will not be straight. We will make progress, and there may be some slippage along the way.”

Still, he declared, “We have begun the essential work of keeping the American dream alive in our time.”

I hear you P.D…… Guilt of One American
Why do I feel “guilty” for being an American? Because I believe in Jesus?Because I speak English? Should I feel guilt in that?

Should I feel “guilty” for my anger towards watching working Americans loose their homes while paying to allow non working Americans to sit home .Should I feel this guilt?

Should I feel “guilty” for my anger towards watching those same people loosing their homes pay those same corporations that are taking their homes in a bailout to cover the “loss” of their loan to that person? No anger should be shown here?

Should I feel “guilty” for being frustrated that I have to learn a new language to order a meal at burger king?or that I need to wade my way through a mob of “workers” to make my way to home depot….yet feel anger to see some kid receive a loitering ticket for skate boarding. Is it wrong to feel this guilt?

Should I feel “guilty” for my concerns with nasco and chopping our country in half with total control to be handed to foreign nations?Should this not scare the hell out of me?

Should I feel guilty for working hard and paying for my Internet and cable..Or should I feel guilty for not agreeing with $650 million for cable converters…?Is there guilt to be found for this?

Should I feel shame to be a Christian because I spread his word along with the help…?

Corporate America makes sure to keep Church and State separate (rightfully so) yet take every penny they can squeeze out of us,Should I feel guilty about that also?

Should I feel “guilty” towards my anger that during the crisis in Gaza and the rest of the world saw it unfold on every channel all day our media found that the only really important thing for us Americans to hear about was Ben and Jen had a baby?am I guilty for this anger?

Yet Corporate America continuously beats away at us with guilt….and its working. Why?

But I am tired of “being guilty” because I Believe in The Lord….

Of being “guilty” for working hard and having such “luxuries” such as cable and Internet (please read with the dripping sarcasm)…

I am tired of feeling guilty for the anger I feel towards the pillaging of our future with these so called bailout/rescue plans..then the hope and change version in the stimulus package….A situation we are in only because of the same ones that are doing the pillaging failed so miserably the first time….

I am tired of being “guilty” for the lies and mis-management of a few hundred….

I am tired of feeling “guilty” for wanting to exercise my rights…

I am tired of feeling “guilty” for wanting to keep my freedom…..

    I am just tired.

Politicaldisgust- I understand alot of Americans have lost money in the market, however that money is not for spending until retirement anyway. You have mentioned your job is secure. If you did not lose your job and you do not live off of savings, why are you so upset. Let me guess. You are in debt because of uncontrolled spending. There should be no reason for someone who has’nt lost there job to be in debt. Spend your money wisely.
I lost my job and almost my home, but I spend wisely and I am surviving. I also have a family of four to support.
The money for automakers is needed. The auto industry is the backbone of millions of jobs. If one automaker goes down a huge ripple affect will occur.
The stimulus package is great other than giving money to the banks who originally ripped off millions of American’s and are now being compensated for it. Billions of dollars are being put in places to create millions of jobs. These jobs in turn will pay Federal taxes back to the Government.

Matt B - True on the debt question, but not because of “uncontrolled spending”. It was not an issue when my income was increasing at a normal cost of living pace. But for the past 2-3 years that has not been the case and both my wife and my incomes are stagnant. Also, she is in the real estate industry and that is almost dead, so we HAVE lost real income and that is the main source of our current “tight” times. So while a job has not been formally lost, the actual income as dropped DRAMATICALLY, which means we have taken a direct hit on available funds for living expenses and available funds to pay down the debt we had on a consistent basis as we were before the current economy hit hard.
