Saying it was crazy is an understatement. Last year it was a 6am start time. This year it was 5am. Next year it will probably be even earlier. And in a few years I am pretty sure that all stores will just be open for 48 straight hours starting ON Thanksgiving day and continuing till midnight Friday.
As in past years my wife and I got up super early to try to get some of our holiday shopping out of the way. And just like EVERY YEAR in the past BY 7AM we swore that this would be the absolute last year we are part of this madness.
There were over 500 freezing people lined up Friday morning before 6am at the Walmart by our house. We saw that many or more outside the Tiger Direct computer store where they were letting one person in at a time and only after one person had left. At the two malls we went to there were so many people that just walking around was almost impossible. I could not take it. By 9am I literally ran (more…)
She must be the dumbest person in the entire world. what an idiot! This video is almost to amazing to be true. Be warned that it is a little gross if you do not like seeing turkeys killed.
From the Huffington Post:
Some videos you just have to see to believe. On Thursday, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin appeared in Wasilla in order to pardon a local turkey in anticipation of Thanksgiving. This proved to be a slightly absurd but ultimately unremarkable event. But what came next was positively surreal. After the pardon Palin proceeded to do an interview with a local TV station while the turkeys were being SLAUGHTERED in the background!! Seemingly oblivious to the gruesomeness going on over her shoulder, she carries on talking for over three minutes. Watch the video below to see for yourself. Be warned, it’s kind of gruesome
Would you have done the same thing? Would you have been as honest? Would would decision been different if you were already wealthy or if you were living check to check?
You may have heard the story this past week about golfer J.P. Hayes. During a PGA Tour qualifying tournament last week Hayes voluntarily turned himself in for 2 separate rule infractions. This incredible honesty not only disqualified him from the tournament but also for a full time spot on the 2009 PGA Tour and potentially millions of dollars. NO ONE saw the rules infraction happen and NO ONE would have ever known if Hayes had not said anything. It is an incredible story.
In a nutshell and without getting all technical on the PGA golf rules, Hayes broke two different rules. First on the 12th hole he accidentally used a different model ball for two shots then he had used for the rest of the round. No one saw this. Once Hayes realized this rule infraction he voluntarily told officials and was penalized 2 shots for the error.
You would think this would be the end of the story and Hayes just received a two shot penalty and we all move on. BUT it did not end there. HOURS LATER (more…)
Who else knows someone, or MANY people, who are out of work or looking for new jobs? I know 2 people who have lost their jobs in the past week and at least five others who have been looking for new jobs for over six months. This is not exclusive to the United States, but also is effecting people all over the globe.
Every day on the news we hear about rising unemployment rates and how it is getting tougher and tougher to find jobs. One thing we have noticed is that traditional newspapers that used to list all the job opening every Sunday in the Classified sections have now almost completely been replaced by online job search sites.
Beyond the job sites that advertise on the Superbowl commercials each year, there are a cool new crop of sites on the net for people to check out. Many have innovative features that are geared at making the search for new employment easier and hopefully quicker. (more…)
This is a great article from one of our good friends Danny Thornton who is allowing us to repost it here. Danny writes on a bunch of different sites, including his own. He has some strong views on the current economy and financial mess our country is in. There are MANY points in the article that we agree with 100%.
Bailout For Dummies, by Danny Thornton.
When I look at all the talk that concerns bailouts and failing companies, it really makes my stomach turn. For me to sit back and accept that the tax payers are going to be footing the bill for all these companies that can not stay afloat does more than makes me sick; it pisses me off. Now, if you are not ready to hear this point of view, then you might want to stop reading now. I am not going to hold back this morning as it is time that someone speaks up. Here it is in a nutshell.
The first and foremost thing that hurts our country (more…)
I am a SLAVE. Not the type of slave you are probably thinking of, but a slave nevertheless. I am utterly controlled by the situation. It dominates my life and at times completely overwhelms my entire being. It oppresses me.
I have tried to fight against my EVIL master. I have demanded change but to no avail. If anything, things continue to get worse. I am a slave I tell you … A slave to my Blackberry.
I called AT&T today to get my minutes used in the past few months. Since I use my Blackberry Curve for work, and wince I am working all of the time and traveling, my phone usage is re-god-damn-diculous!
August: 4425 minutes. That is 73.75 hours or OVER 3 DAYS on the phone.
September: 3901 minutes. That is 65.02 hours or 2.71 days on the phone.
October: 3926 minutes. That is 65.43 hours or 2.73 days on the phone. (more…)
I just had to post my excitement at seeing gas BELOW $2 in Florida and Alabama this week. I am here for business and can only HOPE that this can only be the start of gas prices dropping all over the country and hopefully continuing to drop right through the holidays. How great would it be if we see $1.50 or $1.25! that would be fantastic and really help out with having extra money for Christmas gifts and other expenses.
There is NO REASON that gas should go back up again in my opinion other then the gas companies raping us for profits and end of the year bonuses. In my opinion they have made enough at this point to stick it to us again during the holidays.
And hopefully if we can really start moving towards cars that don’t rely only on gas we could really move away from the coast associated with paying at the pump. Either way, it is going down currently and that is a positive for me. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for even lower prices
Today I was sent a link to a site with a new cartoon attacking President Bush. The site is yet another attack on Bush and hits on just about everything associated with the things people hate him for over the past 8 years. The site features a relatively humorous video with pretty good graphics. The video is filled with bush jokes and place to sign up to be part of some sort of send off for the President when his term officially ends in a few months.
What I wonder is if sites like this will end up being right on about President Bush’s time in office, or history will judge him as a leader who led our country during a difficult time of war that was started by the worst terrorist attack on our country in history? It is easy and fashionable to attack him now, but what will be said in 20 years?
Regardless of how the history books end up writing about him, I think we all agree it is time to make some changes, get the troops home safely as soon as possible and figure out a way to improve the economy. The video is humorous and worth at least one viewing.
While last night was fun … now Obama has to do the actual job. Talk is great, and the 100,000 people rallies were great, but other then being the first African American president (which is wonderful), he has done nothing yet as the President. We CAN NOT lose sight of that important fact.
The job ahead of him will not be easy. It NEVER is for any President. Again I say - he has to actually accomplish something before I will put him on the same level with any of the other great presidents of the past. This day and last night will pass and then what in the next four years? The jury is still out on how much “change” we will actually see.
I am hopeful he will be successful and at least some of the things he has talked about will become a reality. Remember people, it is just another day today. The day after yesterday. Regardless of the election results last night we are no better off yet. None of us.
Like I said I will remain positive that that he will be able to accomplish something, but we will see. Enjoy the day today, but keep it in perspective. All it is is another 24 hours. I voted for Obama so now he better produce for me/us. We can not forget that in the short term bliss.
