Over $150,000 For Clothing For Palin?????

In the past SIX MONTHS I have purchased 1 pair of jeans from Express, 1 pair of khaki pants for work from Walmart, a few shirts here and there and 1 pair of Nike sneakers that were on sale at Dick’s sporting goods. I MIGHT have spent $100-150 total and that was over a 6 month period.

Today the AP reported that “the Republican National Committee spent about $150,000 on clothing, hair styling, makeup and other “campaign accessories” in September for the McCain campaign after Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin joined the ticket as his running mate.” $150,000!!????????!! ON WHAT?

The expenses include $75,062 spent at Neiman Marcus in Minneapolis and $41,850 in St. Louis in early September. The committee also reported spending $4,100 for makeup and hair consulting. The expenses were first reported by Politico.com.

The RNC also spent $4,902 at Atelier, a stylish men’s clothing store in New York. Other purchases included a $92 romper and matching hat with ears for Palin’s baby, Trig, at Pacifier, a baby store in Minneapolis.

In these economic times, and especially with all of the candidates trying desperately to connect with “the average Joe” - why in the world would they shop at Neiman Marcus, an expensive department store chain? Wouldn’t it have made a much more powerful political statement to shop at Target, Walmart, or any of the other well known big-box stores that most average people frequent.

Regardless of what you think about Sarah Palin this is COMPLETELY nuts in my opinion.

I would like to know what made her think that she could take the money and go buy clothes with it. And on top of it, what is the spin that the GOP is going to put on this?

    STUMBLED!

With the current state of the American economy, the last thing Americans need is another politicians thinking they can spend $150,000 on clothes in a few months, good way to show how you are going to run the country.

Everyone said she was the worse pick McCain could have made, and this is just another thing to show she IS as dumb as we all thought she was.

She will be the major factor in McCain losing.

My son, daughter-in-law and two little grand-daughters just lost all their clothes and shoes to Hurricane Ike. The price of one of her suits would go a long way to getting a very basic wardrobe for the whole family, so that they can go on to spend the $150 in six months to back to normal.

She was mayor, governor, and broker of high-power oil and gas deals??? And she did not own even one suit to wear to the convention???

Danny - I think it is more of the disconnect of most modern politicians today and the regular public.

Geoserv - THANKS! And I agree 100% and have posted about it on this site many times. She was a dumb pick for the party to make, but I still think they have thrown in the towel for this election and are trying to build the new younger party line for the future…even if they are nuts like her.

The Republican base are nothing more than economic terrorist extremists. That’s the real war. That’s the war we should be fighting.

Duke - I don’t event think this is just a Republican or Democrat issue. They BOTH do it. They ALL do it.
I am pretty sure Obama is wearing suits that cost thousands and thousands of dollars. The issue with this type of overspending for clothing and other items by all politicians is that it does not match up to the normal daily practices of regular Americans who ARE NOT buying suits that cost thousands of dollars.

Did you see the receipt for the lobster meal for two signed by Michelle Obama? It was for $447.39. The receipt is dated 10/15/08.

Sherry - it is ALL absolutely ridiculous and spending at a level that the common American will never see…ever.

Mary - I thought the same thing. She must have had a lot of clothing, but apparently it was not “good enough” and they needed an extra $100,000 in clothing for her - haha.

    Just your average hockey mom!

I can’t wait until the election is over and McCain staffers are free to talk about what happened behind the scenes – like the exact moment those with open eyes first realized exactly how clueless she is.

    Cheers,
